Unencumbered and Exciting
2019 was a year of great visual exploration for me. The “defaced” series is an ongoing investigation into the figurative approach of my visual tendencies.
The series began with a simple question: What if I reduce the amount of visual information? I wanted to see how a decision in eliminating recognizable features would change our perception of familiarity in the construct of figuration.
Through this process of elimination, it conjured up this idea about defacing something. This was a more challenging process, but it also allowed me to explore my visual tendencies in new ways. The results become more of an abstraction to a silhouetted being, forming a new sense of beauty and power.
The “defaced” series is still ongoing, and I am excited to see where it takes me next. I believe that it is a powerful way to explore the nature of visual perception and to challenge our preconceived notions of beauty.
